COPY CRAFTED WITHIN AN INCH OF ITS LIFE

Joolz Sparkes by Naomi Woddis

What makes me stand out from the crowd is my attention to the tiniest details and a passion for craft. I can't sleep until I've nailed it.

I'm at my best when I'm writing – whether that's content copy from scratch, to repurposing and repositioning existing content, to creating Tone of Voice guidelines,

e-learning modules and interactions or articles, to eCRM programmes or social campaign copy, to nav and buttons, or naming. Long or short form copy, yes please.

Because my career began as one half of a conceptual team creating campaigns, I also have the ability to pull back from the infinitesimal (such as punctuation and grammar) to create big concepts. I call it thinking in ideas as well as thinking in sentences.

If you need a writer to do some writing, that's me. If you need a writer to do some conceptual or strategic thinking as part of your team, that's me too.

I'm happy to brave the tube and join your team onsite, or work remotely from home.

FREELANCE KEEPS MY WRITING MUSCLES HONED

London streets

The world of freelance and contract work has brought with it a fantastic variety of projects, people, business models, language and internal structures, and has taught me speed, agility, stamina.

For the thinking in sentences part, I most enjoy working solo, tapping away on my keyboard – just me and the words, having a ball.

For the thinking in ideas part, I like to have someone to bounce ideas off, and can be teamed with Art Directors, Designers, UX leads, CDs, ECDs, CEOs, in-house silos.

Find me pounding the pavements near you soon, touting for work.

I COVER MOST INDUSTRY SECTORS

Swan and moorhen

During my career I've worked on pretty much everything. Experience includes FMCG, Technology, Leisure, Financial, Third sector, Telecommunications, Automotive, Sports, Alcohol, Fraud, Luxury, B2B, B2C.

If you don't see it represented on this site, you can bet I still have experience in it. Just ask, and I'll provide more examples.

I CAN DO PERM

Pigeons by the Thames

Having enjoyed a career in perm roles within creative agencies, I've learnt from some of the best in the business. Staying put within one company has taught me how to present to clients and develop relationships with them, how to be a core team-player, and when to question the brief or follow it to the letter.

I'm London-based and keen to keep it that way. My perm experience started back in the day at DMB&B in a creative team (three years), then I moved with my AD to Mitchell Pattison Aldred Mitchell (two years). Seeking variety, I went solo into freelance and partnered with other ADs, CDs, Designers and UX. Was tempted back into perm to team up with an inhouse AD at Arthur London (three and a half years).

I left to go freelance again and haven't looked back. But, never say never. The right perm role, the right agency might do it.

I'M A PUBLISHED AUTHOR

London Undercurrents poetry book

Even in my time off from copywriting, I'm writing. I write and perform poetry, write short stories and am working on a novel.

Along with poet Hilaire, I am co-author of London Undercurrents which was published by Holland Park Press, March 2019. Our poetry collection uncovers the hidden histories of London's unsung heroines north and south of the river. The poems are accessible, entertaining, and at just a tenner, the book is great value and makes a good gift.

You can read excerpts from some of the poems and buy a copy here and keep up with my creative writing exploits here.
